#throwback from 4 years ago. Our CEO @Kristin shares: 💬 "@Manuela Hartel (digital artist) @elizabeth carr (curator of the Kunsträume am See) and @gunter pretzel (Munich Philharmonics) had conceptualized this artsy concept - and we at @overw8 got to support them with the festival look and feel as well as yes, posters. The whole affair was super artsy, quirky, clairvoyant even a bit. Why? Because "BeyderZeit" meant a reference towards the Baroque and the topics inbetween human vanity vs. us all having to die at some point. The pandemic was just about to begin when the festival took place, all of us having no freaking idea what was ahead of us. This is one thing we love about being able to work with creative brilliant people like these... it gives you a truly different perspective and they might be sensing something that is in the air. So, for me, this poster, this layout of ours, is a clear pre-pandemic milestone and I am really grateful we're off of that hook at least in the meanwhile." What is one of your "shortly before pandemic" milestones? ℹ There are quite some cool features around that branding, check it out here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/d8JHinF3 #reflect #adapt #agile

📌 #SaveTheDate The European Festivals Association, Stiftung Zukunft Berlin and A Soul for Europe are glad to announce that the Berlin Conference will take place on 7 and 8 November at the Allianz Forum, right next to the iconic Brandenburg Gate! EFA, along with festivals and festival cities and regions, will once again be key contributors. Since 2004, this conference has brought together a diverse spectrum of individuals from the arts to politics, providing a platform for collective discussion and action towards a cultural Europe. Reflecting on the words of then newly appointed President of the European Commission, José-Manuel Barroso, “The questions of what Europe can do for culture, and what culture can do for Europe, are not new. But in this context they have acquired a new sense of urgency […] What is needed now is sustainability of action – the translation of good intentions into good decisions.” Detailed information about the programme and registration links will follow soon. If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected].

The recent surge of news headlines announcing the impending and/or permanent closure of various Museums and Art Galleries is deeply concerning. Having seen and read three or four such articles over the past few weeks; one can only imagine the bleak situation that these institutions found themselves in; and this most likely only represents a fraction of the hidden struggles occurring across the sector. Beyond the pandemic, cultural institutions are navigating a complex and evolving landscape: dwindling funding, outdated operating models, difficulties attracting skilled professionals, shifting audience preferences, and ever-escalating operating costs. Yes, the issues that these institutions are facing are complex and require a multi-disciplinary approach to address them. However, the first step should be the introduction of agile and forward-looking practices. Interventions cannot always only be launched and implemented towards the end. But then again. This is my opinion.

While I work in Scotland's property sector with a focus on science, tech and advanced manufacturing, I'm immensely proud that my two daughters have chosen a different career path. Both are in the Arts - one in Theatre (just graduated from QMU and recently stage manager for the excellent The Spilling Cup) and one at college undertaking an HND in Television. Proud, but concerned that the Arts isn't getting the financial support it needs. UCL stated in a post pandemic report "Although the pandemic has caused significant economic and psychological hardship, particularly for those working in the arts and cultural sector, many people turned to the arts as a vital means of coping with the challenges of the pandemic." And more recently 180,000 people visited the recent record breaking 10 week Banksy exhibition in Glasgow. I thoroughly recommend you spend two minutes reading Fran Hegyi's article below. But with the knowledge Edinburgh has 11 annual festivals. And the core festival organisers (EFI, Fringe, Book, Jazz, Film etc) permenantly employ only c.120 people. In 2022, and according to the recently published BOP/Edinburgh Festival City report, those 120 people generated 3.2m event attendances from an audience of 700,000, GVA in Edinburgh of £407m and 5,850 FTE jobs. BOP note 2022 public sector investment in the Festivals was £11m. For every £1 invested by the public sector in the Edinburgh Festivals, there is a return of c£33 to Scotland. Imagine the impact if we funded our creative industries as we really value them...or alternatively the loss to Edinburgh/Scotland's vibrant landscape and the impact on our collective wellbeing if they disappear! https://lnkd.in/ewbYarCV #edinburgh #edinburghfestivals #artsandculture #artsscotland

In the Arts Festival, amidst the crisp air of a Latin American Autumn evening, the vibrant hues of Loja City's booths illuminated the celebration of its 203 years of independence. Yet, within this lively spectacle, a pang of nostalgia gripped me—a poignant reminder of the life I had left behind in #Ecuador. Here, in the United States, the brilliance of the festival lights felt dazzling, yet undeniably foreign. I was birthed under a different sun and raised to the rhythms of another land. Nevertheless, America had become my cherished home, a realm I had embraced with open arms. Yet, this fusion of cultures was not without its challenges; it entailed a perpetual dance. There were moments, such as this one, where the unfamiliar cadence threatened to overshadow the familiar. In those instances, discouragement would insidiously seep in, casting doubt on my sense of belonging. But amidst the turmoil, a resolute voice would emerge—the same voice that had propelled me across continents. It reminded me of the dreams I carried, the convictions that had sustained me through #linguistics blending and cultural clashes. And so, I find myself standing once more, fortified in my resolve. My journey has transformed into a bridge, connecting the vibrant spirit of my heritage with the boundless opportunities that America has always offered. It was never about relinquishing one identity for another, but rather, about skillfully intertwining them. Now, my strength lies in guiding others along their own paths, ensuring that their aspirations are not overlooked amidst the ever-changing landscape of an evolving new world. Milton L. Ryan W. Neal seems to me there needs to be an overhaul regarding conferences. You invite two artists to a conference, known for explicit lyrics, claimed you had a great time, then complained about it later? You can't chum the water, then complain when the sharks attack. Maybe the solution is for conferences to focus on actually improving your practice, or becoming a better professional? Where is the article that promotes becoming a better advisor? Where is the track the helps financial advisors generate more alpha, or improve tax outcomes? If you're an advisor - what are your clients saying when they hear about these sorts of events? You went to a "festival"? If you add in alcohol, a large crowd, and late night performances, un-professional behavior is going to be norm. Too many professionals conferences across all verticals are falling victim to this format. If you want to go to a music festival or hang out at a bar into the wee hours - do it! Just don't make it an odd professional obligation. Half of your audience is secretly dreading it and it requires awkward, half-way apologetic articles after the fact.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹! It does not matter if 50 or 500 guests. Here are three tips for your next event: 🏗 𝗨𝘀𝗲 "𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀" You can save a loooot of money by using so called "off locations". Meaning no classical event venues. Yes it is not always easy to find them and you need some experience to make them work but your guest experience is so much more unique and you potentially save a lot of you budget. 🍹 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲: 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 Rather offer three unique drinks than a menue full of basics. It shows that you care but creating something unique for your event and you don't have to pay the caterer to offer all they have in the menue. 🎭 𝗔𝗱𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Ask some artists or musicians from the local scene to perform at your event. Why pay an overpriced "corporate event band" that plays lame covers when you can support a real artist from your community for much less?
