- Companies have to assess ideas and opportunities in terms of their fit with their strategy. They then need to prioritize those ideas, and focus efforts on the most meaningful initiatives. This is how you stay focused on the vision and mission of the organization, and avoid pursuing initiatives that are inconsistent with the strategy. Let's look at what ACME's going to do. Their renewed focus has led them to choose five strategic filters to move up market. The first filter is, will this help them build a branded or differentiated offering? Does the initiative help differentiate, or create proprietary offerings that are going to be perceived as differentiating them? The second filter is, does the idea reduce their reliance on commodity training? Does this idea help wean them from the commodity and undifferentiated offerings they've got going on today?
