- Business today has become complex. And so have business problems. This becomes clear when the fish bone diagram you've put together with your team generates multiple root causes. In most cases, there are two or three main causes that have the greatest likelihood of being the underlying reasons for the problem. So when there are many potential contributing causes, how do we know which ones are the most likely culprits? One popular way is to use the collective knowledge of the team and vote to pinpoint the two or three most probable causes. Once you've identified those, you should continue the analysis using the five why's to uncover the deeper root cause of these. Take for example, an urgent care clinic that is receiving many patient complaints due to misdiagnosed illnesses.
