- Define identity concepts. Let's describe identity providers. An identity provider is a service that manages and maintains the identity information of users and provides authentication services to applications. The identity provider is responsible for verifying the identity of users and providing the necessary information to applications to allow them to grant access to the user. Identity providers are third party services that can be used to authenticate users and provide access to cloud services. At Microsoft, Azure Active Directory or Azure AD supports a range of identity providers, including Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The Microsoft identity platform is an evolution of the Azure Active Directory or Azure AD identity service and developer platform. It allows developers to build applications that sign in all Microsoft identities, get tokens to call Microsoft Graph, other Microsoft APIs or APIs that developers have built themselves.
