- Although all of penetration testing is a lot of fun, it really is. You get paid to be the bad guy or at least pretend to be the bad guy. One of the areas that I really like more than anything else is the physical pen testing. Remember that pen testing is not just all about technical controls. Some of it is actual the physicality or the controls around the physical plant itself. So let's take a look at a few aspects of physical security that really should be part of most of your penetration tests. First off, there is gaining access to the physical location, wherever the business is housed, and, of course, business organization, whatever it may be. If you can get inside, then you can get to some of the pieces of hardware. Maybe you can grab some backup tapes or do something. But you have to get inside first off.
