- [Instructor] The simplest way to migrate an existing SQL Server database to the Cloud is to leverage an Azure Virtual Machine. Virtual machines fall into the infrastructure as a service or IaaS category. With this service tier, Microsoft provides access to the hardware needed to host your database server. This includes storage, networking, CPU compute capacity and memory allocations. They'll also start you off by pre-installing an operating system and SQL Server instance version of your choosing. Once the virtual machine is deployed, you're given full access to make any modifications that you want to the operating system and server configurations, just as you would if you were running an on-premise's SQL Server.
