The prototype process
- [Instructor] One way to think about prototyping is as documentation. First there's a process of design. Then when the design is complete a prototype is built to communicate the design to engineers, management, and other stakeholders. You might start with a brief outlining the product goals. Then there's ideation and a design concept emerges. Next, a spec is written for the prototyper. And finally, the prototyper builds a prototype as a living document of the design. If necessary parts of the process can be repeated to refine the design and prototype. Another way to think about it though is that the prototype is part of the design process itself, evolving and informing your design as it progresses. By including prototyping in the design process you create a process I call nimble design. In nimble design you can think of the design process as containing multiple activities.
