Overview: We are seeking a skilled Legal Transcription Scopist to join our team on a freelance basis. As a Legal Transcription Scopist, you will play a crucial role in the transcription and proofreading process of legal documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards. This position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to work remotely. Please note this is a 1099 independent contractor position.
Responsibilities:
Transcribe Legal Proceedings: Transcribe and edit rough drafts of legal proceedings including court proceedings, depositions, trials, hearings and testimonies while ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Proofread and Edit: Review transcripts for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and consistency, adhering to specific client preferences and guidelines.
Research and Verify: Verify names, places, and facts mentioned in transcripts to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Collaborate with Court Reporters: Work closely with court reporters to clarify unclear or inaudible portions of transcripts.
Meet Deadlines: Complete assignments within specified timeframes while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
Maintain Confidentiality: Handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
Requirements:
Experience: Proven experience as a scopist or in a similar role within the legal transcription or court reporting field.
Skills: Excellent typing skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in grammar and punctuation.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with transcription software (e.g., Case CATalyst, Eclipse, DigitalCAT) and word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word).
Knowledge: Understanding of legal terminology and procedures preferred.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in legal transcription or court reporting is a plus.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working Conditions:
Location: Remote work from home. You must be based in the United States.
Schedule: Flexible hours; ability to meet deadlines and accommodate varying workload demands.
Compensation:
Compensation will be based on a per-page or per-project basis, commensurate with experience and industry standards.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and benefits (i.e. benefits ineligible).
