About the Role:
Job Summary
Creates a calm and healing environment of care through the use of music in various non-clinical environments, using the inherent healing elements of music and sound to enhance the environment for visitors and staff at NGMC. Provides music to help comfort and encourage visitors and staff of NGMC hospitals in common areas. In addition, the musician provides therapeutic music sessions to help support clinical staff working throughout the hospital. Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: Must be enrolled in a Therapeutic Music Training and Certification program recognized by the National Therapeutic Music Standards Board. The Ambient Musician must achieve certification as a Live Therapeutic Musician within one year of employment.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma
Minimum Experience: At least 5 years of formal lessons, at least 4 years of collaborative ensemble experience such as orchestras, choirs, chamber groups, etc. At least 3 years of experience of public performance such as weddings, funerals, church, private functions.

Preferred Licensure or other certifications:
Preferred Educational Requirements: Student in a Bachelor's program at institution of higher learning majoring or minoring in music or exceptionally proficient on acoustic instrument.
Preferred Experience: Experience in a hospital or medical setting. Clinical research training/experience.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities
Provide healing music to visitors and staff in public spaces at NGMC Hospitals
Act as an ambassador of the Live Therapeutic Music department (part of the Puckett Center for Spiritual Care) to visitors and staff of NGMC Hospitals
Provides emotional care to visitors and staff of NGMC hospitals when appropriate.
Provide comfort via music to patients and staff as directed.
Provides own instrument.
Is able to transport, carry, move, and set up own instrument and accessory equipment quickly and without assistance at multiple campuses.
Communicates appropriately with patients, families, and medical personnel, demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of patients and their families.
Accepts direction from supervisors and clinical staff.
Works without supervision when necessary.
Maintains an open line of communication with other staff, volunteers, and families.
Is able to play four hours per work day without discomfort. Comfortable improvising as needed.
