DePaul’s Master of Science in Applied Statistics centers itself around teaching students the ability to research, analyze and interpret data. The program, along with my chosen focus of 'Data Science', not only emphasizes data-analytics skills, but explores how to tackle problems of statistical design, analysis and control. The circulium focuses on computation and technologies that play an important role in problem-solving across the job market, including research equipment and software used for data analysis, numerical analysis, simulations and mathematical modeling.
The course work allows for students like myself to explore, Applied Statistics, Data Management and Mining, Programming, Machine Learning, and specific elective options like social network analysis, optimization theory, time series forecasting, algorithmic model deployment, and a deep dive into data science technologies like Python, RStudio, AWS, SQL, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Spark, TensorFlow, PySpark, etc. -

Through my statistics concentration, I have focused on building a foundation of probability and statistics, completing course sequences of Applied Probability and Statistics (I,II,III), Regression Analysis, Bayesian Statistics, and Statistical Modeling.
To aid in the transition from applied and theoretical mathematics and statistics to the field of data science, I also possess a minor in Data Science from the College of Digital Media and Computing. This program offered an overview of the Data Science field, along with in-depth course work covering topics such as, Database Systems, Data Analysis, Machine Learning, Computer Science and Programming, and Data Visualization. -
