Walter "Ted" Carter

Emeritus status unanimously granted by the eight publicly elected Board of Regents and the four student body president Regents for exceptional leadership as President of the University of Nebraska System from Jan 1st, 2020 to Dec 31st, 2023.

The U.S. Naval Academy Distinguished Graduate Award is USNA's highest honor. It is given to USNA graduates who are living and represent the highest ideals of command, citizenship and government service across a professional lifetime. Nominations for the award are generated by USNA Class Presidents and selected by a panel of highly Distinguished USNA Alumni. To date the award has been presented to only 105 USNA Alumni.

The Midway American Patriot Award is presented by the USS Midway Museum and honors individuals who embody dedication, honor, achievement, and sacrifice in service to America. The other 2019 honoree was retired Admiral James ‘Jaws’ Winnefeld, past Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Previous honorees include Apollo and Gemini Astronauts, the Heroes of the Battle of Midway, John McCain, and Bob and Elizabeth Dole.

The USS Midway was the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century; it was commissioned in 1946 and decommissioned in 1992. It opened as the USS Midway Museum in June 2004, where it hosts 1 million visitors annually.

The Stockdale Award was established by U.S. Secretary of the Navy Edward Hidalgo to honor James Stockdale, a Medal of Honor recipient in the Vietnam War, who exhibited exemplary leadership while a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for nearly eight years. Each year, two commanding officers below the grade of captain are selected––one for the United States Atlantic Fleet and one from the United States Pacific Fleet. A board of peer-nominated officers select the winners.

This award was issued by the United States Navy Fighter Squadron 124 Gunfighters. The program taught fighter tactics and techniques to selected naval aviators and naval flight officers for their initial training in the F-14 Tomcat to include carrier landings on West coast aircraft carriers. Training was performed at Naval Air Station Miramar, California, home to Topgun.

The Bronze Star Medal is a United States decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.

The Distinguished Flying Cross is awarded to any officer or enlisted person of the armed forces of the United States for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. Both heroism and achievement must be entirely distinctive, involving operations that are not routine. In the Navy, the "V" is worn to denote combat heroism or to recognize individuals who are "exposed to personal hazard during direct participation in combat operations".

The Rhode Island Aviation Hall of Fame's mission is to increase public awareness of the history and technical development of aviation, and to recognize and honor individuals with connections to Rhode Island who played a role in that progress.
