  • Eye detection in profile images using morphological and color image processing

Florida Conference on Recent Advances in Robotics. Jupiter, Florida

In this paper, we developed an algorithm and a program to detect eyes in profile images, using techniques like PCA, morphological and color image processing.

Projects

  • Design and Development of Autonomous Intelligent Walking Robot

    -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj62uKvrMUo

Working for the course Intelligent Machine Design Lab, I developed the “Frankenstein Robot”. It is an intelligent biped robot that follows an obstacle using sonar sensors and imitates the human gait with rigid knee joint and flexible hip joints, and balances the body weight using an inverted pendulum.

  • Design and Development of Robotic Welding Systems for Blow Out Preventers

    -

This was a robotic welding project for automatically welding flanges to the BOPs. The system consisted of a motoman robot, a headstock, a tailstock and welding torches. The robot was equipped with dot laser sensor for finding weld points. Process used was MIG welding. After completion of welding, robot would use a grinding tool to clean welded surface. An automatic tool changing station was provided with the system. Safety Fencing was installed along with interlocks for user protection.

  • Design, Development and Testing of Automation System for Sprinkler System Struts Assembly

    -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df2W7fSpRNc

This was an assembly automation project, where a series of mechanisms were used to assemble center strut actuating rods that are a part of the fire sprinklers. In this project, we developed an automation system that uses individual feeders for each component of the sprinkler struts, and assembles them on a Rotary Table, where numerous other operations are performed. These operations include roll marking, stamping, milling, swaging and vision…

  • Design, Development and Testing of Robotic Laser Welding System for Bone Marrow Guns

    -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgK5865MnGo

This system was built at Interlink Controls for CareFusion Inc, who is a manufacturer of bone marrow guns. The system involved a robotic manipulator, a YAG laser welder, feeders and various other mechanisms. The robot conducted pick-and-place operations for various parts coming out of the feeder, and were welded together by high strength laser beam. Accommodating size variation in the various product configurations was the most challenging part…

  • Dynamic Modeling and Simulation of DrawWorks Kinetic Energy Management System (KEMS),

    -

This simulation was built for a standardized KEMS product built by Interlink called Derrick Master. The purpose of KEMS is to provide operational safety for an oil rig, to prevent travelling block from hitting the floor or the top of the rig and to limit forces on the rope. In order to test the KEMS, I built a dynamic mathematical model to simulate the oil rig, which included DrawWorks, travelling block, GE 750HP motor, rope, electric brake, parking brake, clutch, pulleys, encoders, throttle…

This project was carried out in LabView.

  • Real Time Tool Wear Detection using Vision Sensors

    -

In this project, I developed a technique for detecting wear at the corner and the edges of a carbide-insert tool. A digital microscope was used as the vision sensor. It is a very commonly used tool for a vast variety of applications in machining. The project was carried out in Matlab, and various vision sensing algorithms were used.
