The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee favorably reported the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPs) Appropriations Bill including not less than $65 million in assistance to Armenia. The Committee specifically directs the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide bilateral economic assistance to Armenia to respond to the needs of the more than 120,000 Nagorno- Karabakh refugees ethnically cleansed from their ancestral homeland due to Azerbaijan’s military aggression. “We thank the Senate Appropriations Committee for its strong expression of support for Armenia and aid for Nagorno-Karabakh refugees ethnically cleansed by Azerbaijan’s brutal military assault,” said Timothy Jemal, President of Global ARM. “In particular, we applaud the leadership of SFOPs Subcommittee Chair Chris Coons (D-DE) in developing the foreign aid bill.” See more: https://lnkd.in/gxUr-dzB #USArmenia #NagornoKarabakh #Azerbaijaniagression #EthnicCleansing

On September 6th, 2024, the USAID-supported Rapid Response Platform was officially launched in Yerevan, Armenia. This platform is designed to help the Armenian government coordinate support more efficiently for people during crises, such as natural disasters, public health emergencies, or economic hardships. Thanks to funding from USAID, the Armenian government has upgraded the platform to make it more effective in delivering assistance to families affected by such emergencies. As Georgian citizens have voiced opposition to the law, we have seen clear indications of a campaign of intimidation and the use of violence to suppress peaceful dissent. 🌍USAID's Strategic Response to Ukraine Staffing Challenges Amidst Crisis🌍 As detailed in the USAID Office of Inspector General’s latest report, USAID took decisive actions to address staffing challenges while scaling up programming following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. 📊 Despite facing a 42% staffing reduction compared to pre-invasion levels, USAID was able to increase its assistance programming by 224%. Key strategies included: ✅ Implementing workplace flexibilities, such as staff rotations and remote work. ✅ Seeking alternative office space in Poland for operations outside Ukraine. ✅ Expanding third-party monitoring to ensure project oversight. The rapid deployment of USAID’s Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and strategic workforce planning, which added 50 new mission positions, were critical to maintaining USAID's operations in Ukraine. This allowed the Agency to effectively manage an expanded portfolio, ensuring continued support to the Ukrainian people during these challenging times. 👏 Hats off to the dedication and resilience of USAID staff who continue to work tirelessly in complex crisis environments.
