  • Dawn Blitz 2015- International Training Exercise

    Conducted research, planned, implemented and evaluated the effectiveness of a comprehensive communication plan in support of key US Marine Corps strategic communication objectives during Dawn Blitz 2015. This multilateral exercise brought together over 2,000 U.S., Japanese, Mexican, Columbian, Australian and New Zealand military members to enhance interoperability and increase amphibious operations at sea and ashore. The communication plan included research of key international publics perceptions of previous U.S.-Japan bilateral training and provided specific communication objectives that were measurable for performance and effectiveness. During the execution of this plan, I MEF public relations Marines worked alongside 3rd Fleet sailors, Mexican military and Japanese military PR practitioners to support over 75 international media representative and facilitate 6 key events that boosted key public awareness and interest in the progress of the international training off the coast of and ashore at Camp Pendelton in San Diego, CA.

    This study examined how exposure to negative content from Internet communities associated with an organization through activism, member employment, or distaste for the organization negatively impacted perceptions of the organization’s reputation and damaged organization-public relationships. The study further examined how exposure to negative content from Internet communities impacted an individual’s propensity to interact with organizations in the future. In 2013, the Marine Corps experienced negative press reports associated with the negative online behavior of Marines and this situation served as the impetus for this study. A convenience sample (N=173) of San Diego State University students between the ages 18-24 participated in a posttest only control group experiment. Participants were randomly assigned to three experimental treatments designed to depict Internet communities that were negative, neutral, and positive in stance toward the United States Marine Corps. Results indicate that negative behavior and rhetoric displayed on Internet community sites, especially when members were affiliated with the organization through employment, had a detrimental impact on the organization’s reputation, OPR, and commitment levels of key stakeholders.
