As you progress in your SWE career, the need to communicate brief increases exponentially. These practices have helped me as I've advanced. 1. Convey or ask your question directly, then give more context I used to explain the entire situation before asking what I needed. But with experience, I realized it's better to ask the question directly in the first line since you’re reaching out to experts. I followed this pattern in this post as well:); This way, those who know the answer can address the question immediately, while others who need context can read the 'more context' section that follows. 2. Sometimes, it’s okay to schedule a quick 1:1 as short as 15 minutes. Generally, I used to schedule all my meetings for 30 minutes. With experience, I realized that people are busy, and I can often get everything done in a 15 or 20-minute meeting. During that short time, I start by saying, "Given the interest of time," and then jump directly into the question. For more information, I provide a detailed document or keep the discussion brief. This way, you can talk to leaders at any level and increase the chances of them accepting the meeting. The key is to be well-prepared for what needs to be delivered in that 20 minutes. It works.

When I interviewed with Walmart for SWE-III position, I got this feedback from the interviewer after the HLD System Design round - "You are interviewing for an X-3 position. I have interviewed a lot of folks for X-4 and X-5 positions in the last couple of months. I wish everybody was as thorough as you were while explaining the systems." That was the moment when I knew I was in the right direction in my system design preparation. Before that, I didn't even know if I was even preparing the way it is supposed to be done. That was when I got to know there was no one way to go for System Design. As long as you can explain what you are doing, why you are doing and how you are doing, you cannot be wrong. I will talk about "How I prepared for the HLD round" in some other post.

Alexa, change my title to SDE 2! Hi everyone, I have been promoted to the next level at Amazon. Amazon's evaluation process differs from what you typically write in a work document. This difference offers a unique perspective on how your work is assessed. In hindsight everything seems obvious, so I won't discuss specific successes or failures. However, I want to highlight the lessons I learned, which I'll both apply in the future. 1. Look out for impactful work. 2. My job is not just to create tools or write code but also seek feedback from users and advertise it to potential users. Here is to new learnings and responsibilities. At last but not least. It has been amazing co-workers like Krishnaprasad Krishnamoorthy , Rajkumar Pandian and many more who, I cannot mention as list will go beyond the limit who have played a key role in the whole process.
