Indeed, Architecture Matters! I always enjoy getting a better perspective on issues that impact our profession, but also our lives in general. This is an older project, but one we may revisit for a portfolio update. If you scroll to the bottom of the Behance link below, you even get a rare picture of me, on the greenscreen at Atomic Studios in Chicago. The most awesome Ryan Duff was there for technical direction also. This is all rendered in Corona, 4k 30fps. Some greenscreen people were used to give us control over actions, as the storyboard from the client carried a strong narrative that required specific dialogue and actions. Thats not apparent here, this is our contribution to a larger piece which was live footage, with our CGI edited in. The timelapse street shot was great fun to make. We used a timelapse HDRI from hyperfocal and had to offset keys for the #anima people. All the ground level backgrounds, the streetscape and vehicles etc., that's all 3d. We did not do any tracking for this, we contrived shots to be lock-down, but have a reverse engineered move in post to kind of faux-track the scenes with a linear track. It worked well. The drone shot is the exception. Tracking was ok, not great, slides a bit in one shot. Also, the client requested we dumb down the realism of the aerial building render, as they felt the realistic building got lost... we had to make it less real to keep your eye on it. Hey ho, you gotta do what you gotta do. Thats one of the motivators to go back and clean this up for 2024. Production process for things like this have not changed too much in the 3d dept, but keying and other tangential tasks have changed dramatically. Better people models Revised edit/pacing. NSW Architects - we need to pay attention to this Building Bill that will dissolve the current Architects Act! At present there is NOTHING in the Bill draft that explicitly states WHAT qualifications and accreditation are required at each level of license. Do not assume that 'unrestricted' equates to 'architect'. Are we going to stand by and allow our 5 years of University education, mandatory experience and rigorous examination process for registration, and the closely managed accreditation of architectural education (which occurs NATIONALLY) not be clearly written into the proposed Bill? Sure, the registration of architects may continue as usual but there is nothing in the current draft Bill and its 'Dictionary' which clearly defines - what a 'designer' is - what 'design' or 'building design' is - who is qualified to undertake 'unrestricted building design work' If there is no clear definition of who may undertake what work, our qualifications and registration will become equated with those holding far lesser qualifications. Who is going to become registered if that's the case? And why would our universities then offer a Master of Architecture degree? The potential consequences of the poor definition of these design roles and licence categories within the Bill could be devastating to the profession and architecture schools in NSW. Please, inform yourselves of this Bill and attend the Institute event on Monday evening (link below). https://lnkd.in/gqd46krY I love this video of David Letterman asking Steve Jobs about the internet and pretty much ridiculing it ! (Check out their conversation from the three minute mark.) It's easy to look back at this now and laugh, but it just goes to show you how people make fun of anything that's new or different. And by the way, I'm not just talking about technology, but about something that has an ever bigger impact: ideas ! I like to tell people that-- despite appearances to the contrary-- in the culture wars of the late 1960s and '70s, the Hippies won !! Think about it: at the time, people ridiculed the "counter culture" for long hair, wearing sandals and casual, loose-fitting clothing, eating "health food", doing yoga, planting gardens & growing their own crops, smoking cannabis, advocating for solar power, and rejecting the daily corporate work routine. They were called "lazy" and "impractical", "idealistic", "crazy" (and much worse). But when was something new ever _not_ considered "crazy" ?? So where are we today ? Well, even your grandparents are wearing comfortable shoes, doing yoga, planting gardens, and eating healthy food. Let's face it: your grandparents are Hippies ! And at work ? What office doesn't have a "Casual Friday" with a relaxed dress code, much less a flexible work from home policy ? Has your boss ever told you to cut your hair ? Can you even imagine wearing a tie to work every day ? What about states and cities ? Several have already legalized cannabis and now the government will _pay you_ with rebates for installing solar panels. See? _The Hippies won !!_ Well, we're not keeping score, but it's just another example of the three stages that many people go through when reacting to something new: 1. Dismiss it as impractical or idealistic. Call it crazy and ridicule people for even suggesting it. 2. Put off adopting it for as long as possible. Keep telling yourself that "it's not practical" or that "people just aren't ready for it yet". 3. Then, when it's finally become mainstream, adopt it without ever referring to the way that it was originally ridiculed and delegitimized. I guess this is just human nature, but if you want to predict where we'll be in the future, look at the things that most people are calling "crazy" & "idealistic" today, because it won't be long before what we think is the future is already here... So what's your business strategy ? Is it to be an early adopter, to get ahead of the curve and start building the future, or is it to wait until everyone else has already made the move and you have to change just to catch up ?

Curious what an office that incorporates design strategies that support neurodiverse employees would look and feel like? What's more is the result is something all neuro-types would find beneficial. My good friend and colleague B Sanborn paints a research-informed picture of a workplace that is welcoming and inspirational for all to do their best work.
