    In May of 2013, I was appointed to a ten-year seat as a commissioner on Austin's inaugural Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (ICRC), chartered with drawing Austin's first ever ten City Council districts.

    This role required critical thinking, impartiality, and leadership to ensure the Commission remained unified in its mission. It also tapped into individual skills among Commissioners.

    My work on the Commission included the development of the Commission's marketing plan, as well as creating the Commission's website: http://www.austinredistricting.org

    The ICRC made history as the first citizen-initiated, independent entity to establish the boundaries of the 10 new Austin City Council districts. Responsibilities included:
    - Conducting duties with integrity and fairness;
    - Conducting an open and transparent process to enable full public consideration of and comment on the drawing of district lines to include an open hearing process;
    - Drawing district lines in accordance with specific redistricting criteria in the Charter;
    - Adopting a final redistricting plan and certifying the plan to the Austin City Council; and
    - Issuing a report that explains the basis on which the Commission made its decisions.
