Friends, this is your friendly reminder that your voice and your vote matters. My session for SXSW EDU 2025 is now up for community voting for a few more days, and this year, I’m diving into a topic that’s deeply personal to me: ✅ "Empowering Women in Tech & Event Production" This isn’t just another session—it's a call to action for more inclusive and supportive environments in our industries. Your vote can make a huge difference in getting this conversation started. Community input makes up 30% of the final selection, and I’d love to see this session come to life with your help. My journey in tech and event production hasn’t always been smooth. I’ve faced challenges, been pushed aside, and had to fight for my place at the table. But those experiences only strengthened my resolve to pave the way for others. This session is more than just words; it’s a reflection of my commitment to creating spaces where everyone can thrive. If this resonates with you, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could UpVote and share your thoughts. Every vote and comment counts! ✅ Sign in and cast your vote here: https://lnkd.in/e5VHUvee Thank you for being a part of this mission with me! #SXSWEDU #DEI #SupportEachOther #VoteToday #womenintech #womeninAI #womenincloud #LeadershipMatters #womeninAV #AIspeaker #AVspeaker #speakonAI #speaktech #Empowerment

I've had a fantastic week with the Second City Works team, engaging with incredible thought leaders. Today marks another full day of learning before we head back to Chicago. For lifelong learners, seeking insights beyond our bubble is essential. Remember, we can learn from anyone. Embracing diverse perspectives broadens our horizons, enabling us to delve deep, not just skim the surface. This approach opens the door to transformation and growth. #learning #improvisation #uncertainty

I thoroughly enjoyed talking to the super knowledgeable and passionate Jodi Asbell-Clarke, MA, MS, PhD, about her deep wealth of knowledge and curiosity about how neurodivergent learners learn. Those who know me personally know that I've had a front-and-center seat watching how one particular (amazing, gifted, and intelligent) neurodivergent learner found her way in STEM. So when Jodi gifted me her latest book, "Reaching and Teaching Neurodivergent Learners in STEM," I poured myself right into it. To hear more about her findings, listen below!

Two weeks ago, I posted how excited I was about Peacock's many innovative ways to experience the Olympics. Having come out the other side, I think overall they did a great job! The Vulture link below is offers an excellent review which closely reflects my take: Gold Zone was stellar, multi-view was a great way to sample and discover, and being able to spend more time watching actual competitions instead of sappy, pre-produced packages about the athletes made this, for me at least, the best Olympics TV experience ever. The only real miss were those A.I.-powered Al Michaels daily recaps, available on the Peacock site and mobile app. Michaels is among the best TV sports announcers ever, but merely parroting his vocal cadences doesn't come close to capturing what made him so special. A.I.-generated Michaels was joyless, soulless and flat, missing any of the emotion and humanity that made him so special. Slate (linked below), I'll note, seemed much more impressed, going in-depth on the many systems and behind-the-scenes teams it took. And boy, those AI-powered recaps seem to have required a LOT of humans to review and approve the AI's work, at every step. It starts with human-created metadata about the events. Then "human editors then adapt the generated copy to something that the real Al Michaels might say spontaneously while proofreading the text for any typos." Later "teams further optimize how the voice sounds to make it as close as possible." Wait — so instead of hiring creative humans to write and voice their highlights, they have an A.I. do all that and task even more humans with the drudgery of cleaning up the A.I.'s work? Is this a future anyone asked for? Anyone who has ever set foot in a remote truck or network control center knows that the same hodgepodge of a few dozen clips — which, admittedly, were nicely sewn together based on a checklist of preferences I selected — could have been produced as easily, perhaps more easily, not to mention better and cheaper, by a small team of writers, editors and one or two human announcers. I mean, ESPN turns out highlight packages just like this but with 1000x more creativity multiple times a day. So why bother? I get why Microsoft's Copilot A.I. team wanted a showcase at the Olympics, and they got one. But this just was more evidence that so much of what's touted as revolutionary about A.I. is really in the service of a lower quality, wastefully inefficient end product. https://lnkd.in/evAa9d3j (Vulture Peacock article) https://lnkd.in/eEUV29gw (Slate A.I. Al Michaels article) #olympics #peacock #streaming #AI
