In order to best support the faculty and student experience in teaching and learning with technology, Cornell Academic Technologies is interested in understanding the teaching and learning challenges of our Cornell faculty and students. The goal of the study is to identify potential changes to our current approach so we can better align with the changing educational landscape.

A space in the #OLCInnovate schedule to offer a space for design thinkers, tinkers, and leaders to assemble in order to propose and solve challenges we encounter in learning (in K-12, higher education, and industry-L & D), such as:

Using the design thinking process to transform how users at Cornell experience online training. After brainstorming with a core group, we identified two major challenges:
How might we identify quality training - what makes training good or bad from point of view of experiences people have had?
How might we improve communication and marketing (central info sharing on training, resources, skills, info, tools, etc)?

The TOEP community provides a safe and supportive environment to work alongside peers and to reflect on how these emerging technology tools may impact teaching and learning. Fellow responsibilities include:
Develop market plan to communicate out to campus to promote TOEP.
Host informational sessions to recruit faculty & staff participants from campus
Stay current with Web 2.0 technologies taught through TOEP
Facilitate within and across-campus mentoring

Conference Theme: Connecting the Past, Present and Future

Co-PI for Tier three IITG, for $45,000. Worked with co-principal investigators from the SUNY Levin Institute, SUNY Purchase, SUNY Old Westbury, SUNY Ulster, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Empire State College. The goal of the grant was to investigate the use of AACU rubrics and e-portfolios as a way to improve the development and assessment of meaningful international learning experiences. The outcome was a cross cultural evaluation toolkit.

Co-PI for Tier two, $20,000 SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology grant (IITG), to research the use of virtual meeting tools and mobile technology as a way to create a virtual term abroad. Used the Value Creation Framework (Wenger, Trayner & de Latt, 2011) to assess the value of synchronous cross cultural collaborations for students and faculty.

Coordinate and support design, production, development and running of CornellX MOOCs. Work with Center for Teaching Excellence, University Library, video production team, faculty and edX in development of learning outcomes, content and assessment; copyright clearance and OER; and innovation of new tools in edX. Create schedule and project milestones.
