This ambitious goal, as established in the April 2022 state budget, is driven by a strong commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance air quality for New Yorkers.

For the purposes of the Electric School Bus Roadmap (the Roadmap), “ESBs” refers to both battery-powered and hydrogen fuel cell-powered electric buses that meet the definition of zero-emission buses. However, there are no hydrogen fuel cell-powered school buses currently available or expected to be available in the next few years, so the Roadmap is focused on battery-powered buses. Future versions of this Roadmap may include more discussion of hydrogen fuel cell-powered buses as the market develops.

Project FEVER (Fostering Electric Vehicle Expansion in the Rockies) created a readiness and implementation plan to increase electric vehicle (EV) and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) adoption across the state of Colorado. Through a collaborative research and analysis process, the project identified market barriers to EV penetration and developed strategies to overcome these barriers in the transportation and utility sectors. Five key areas were examined: policy, education and outreach, planning, utilities and permitting.

The Denver Metro Clean Cities Coalition, a program administered by the American Lung Association in Colorado, managed Project FEVER as part of their efforts to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector. Project FEVER was funded by a year-long Department of Energy (DOE) grant - one of 16 DOE grants awarded in 2011 to foster EV expansion throughout the U.S.
