Prioritize tasks according to level of importance, ask for help, delegate tasks where possible and enforce BOUNDARIES! “No” is a full sentence.

If a student feels left out, I would provide positive reinforcement to students who are including classmates in play, in addition I would also complement the student on their demonstrated strengths and skills and ask them to pair up with another student to show them how to play a game or whatever activity they are working on in the moment so it not only builds character, promotes socialization but also it builds up that students sense of self and builds their self esteem!

To ensure that all student needs are met, it is imperative that we as teachers conduct anecdotal observations, keep a detailed record of quality interactions that offer unique insight to the students abilities spanning the developmental domains, conduct evaluations and collect data from student work samples/grades in addition to considering their cultural background to provide a foundation on which a tailored and differentiated education can be provided.

Interview staff or hand out surveys that act as a questionnaire but also offer choices and a comments section where staff can indicate communication style, preferences for open or closed door feedback, and also take time to observe each staff member and build a rapport. Ask the staff members to sign up for a date and time when they are able to meet with you to discuss feedback. Give them a choice, give them a voice! By doing so, they become more invested which is important as they too are still stakeholders of the organization.

In order to understand resistance, one must understand the other perspective. Only then can you address the underlying issues at hand. Often times resistance indicates a fear of change, which stems from fear of the unknown. Listen to what this senior teacher has to say, consider what they have to offer, and allow them to be a stakeholder in the decision making process where feasible, and necessary. Then, reassure them that they have valid points, and thank them for their contribution. Acknowledgement often helps establish or strengthen the rapport necessary to move forward as a team.

By taking time out to reflect, it facilitates the ability to identify potential problems, patterns that lead to those problems, and also provides a fresh perspective on how to address the problems you may have encountered. Reflecting also provides an opportunity to highlight the strategies and approaches that are working and ensuring optimal outcomes as a whole. Either way, reflecting is absolutely essential as a leader!
