In a recent episode of H/L Ventures' For Starters, we pointed out that 70% of unicorns have at least one founder from an underrepresented group. As we said then, it highlights how having diverse viewpoints involved can spark innovation and growth. Despite this, new research shows a major funding gap for diverse women and minorities. Racially diverse, all-female startup founding teams with minorities spent the longest time fundraising in 2023 at an average of 25 weeks, a 67% increase from 2022. By comparison, all-male teams secured more funding and at a faster pace. What can be done to address this gap? #Investing #Diversity #Startups

Today I joined a roundtable discussion organized by Rep. Ro Khanna that brought together a powerful group of crypto leaders from across the industry, along with representatives from the White House and Congress. This was a thoughtful and productive step forward for the digital asset industry in Washington. Crypto – by its nature as a technology – is nonpartisan, so any discussion about how to regulate it and what proper legislation should look like must be bipartisan. During the roundtable, I shared a few key points: The crypto voter is real. In fact, according to recent polling, one in five swing state voters consider crypto to be an important issue in the upcoming election. The crypto advocate is active. The grassroots organization Stand With Crypto counts more than 1.2 million advocates who are passionate about speaking up and engaging with their elected representatives on crypto. The crypto industry is mature. Blockchain Association is just over five years old, but the policy infrastructure the industry has in place now is organized, effective – and a force. Today’s roundtable made one thing clear: Our efforts – from the crypto voter to the crypto advocate to the crypto industry – are working. Let’s keep up the momentum.
