“High-performing employees report a 16% lower intent to stay in the face of on-site work requirements.” That little gem and work-life balance aside, having worked remote for 11 years I work harder, longer and deeper than I ever did when I was office based. That didn’t happen automatically. It required focusing on how to get working from home to work for me and requires regular reevaluation. Gartner’s R&A force is remote and global. Given the talent needs we have I can’t imagine being able to change that. Enabling effective, remote work is table stakes for us and has been for almost 20 years. Are you a leader? Or are you a manager? What’s the difference between the two? In my experience: Leadership is about driving change. Management is about creating stable performance. Lots of nuances to that but I think it’s directionally correct. I would say not all great managers are great leaders or visa versa. But most people would agree that you need both to have a successful company. If that’s the case then it is very important for both the leaders and managers in the company to be acting in lockstep! P.S. Both great leaders and managers are hard to find so if you lucky enough to have either on your team - do whatever you can to keep them around!
