Really interesting to see this: how Europe is moving up. It is interest to contrast this qualitative survey with the #siliconcatalyst analysys that UK is sixth in Europe in funding value fir silicon investment. A study in perspectives on AV safety: a Waymo robotaxi approaches an intersection in San Francisco. Some other driver is doing "really fast donuts" in the intersection, and has been doing so long enough that the robotaxi rider looks up because of the smell of burning rubber entering the cabin. Robotaxi enters the intersection, then stops. The other driver halts and narrowly misses hitting the robotaxi (by perhaps a foot). The rider: "I can trust the Waymo, but I can't trust this driver". States that the other driver was upset but the robotaxi rider "shrugged, and pointed to the invisible driver." What ya' gonna do? It's a Waymo. "Still going to use Waymo." Presumed Waymo response to regulators and media: The human driver doing donuts was irresponsible. If there had been a crash it would have been the other driver's fault. (If I got this wrong would be happy to be corrected by Waymo. They have not commented as far as I know.) A broader safety engineering response: This is not the first time a robotaxi has encountered another car doing donuts in an intersection. In fact, a Cruise robotaxi was hit in a similar situation in March 2023 (SGO 30412-4960). From the description it seems there was plenty of warning this was happening. Why did the robotaxi not stop well clear of the intersection as a prudent human driver would have? Is Waymo monitoring SGO data and learning from what has been reported by other companies? Has Waymo included "other car doing donuts" in its hazard log? Did Waymo decide to ignore mitigation of this hazard for some reason? Will that change now that this has happened to Waymo instead of just Cruise? I'm glad in this case there was no injury, but there certainly could have been but for chance from a rare circumstance that is already known to have caused a crash. Being saved by the “grace of the Gods” is not a safety argument. I hope these questions are being asked and resolved by Waymo. But we won't know until the next donut incident. (repost w/ video link) Here is another great example of your Tensilica Vision DSPs being for computer vision applications. Here, our very successful Vision Q7 DSP is performing Time-of-Flight (ToF) decoding in real-time. The Q7 DSP integrated on an Axera AX650 SoC converts the raw phase coded image from the camera and generates a depth map using ToF algorithms. Implementing ToF decoding on the Q7 DSP has shown significant performance improvement and flexibility compared to a CPU- or RTL-based implementations. This demonstration was done in collaboration with LIPS Corporation, a leading provider of 3D camera cameras machine vision solutions who also supplied the ToF algorithms and camera. Today @ AGI House SF’s Launch-a-thon, I’m launching Converge: An open-source AI-Human developed programming language for Neuromorphic Computing on Intel Corporation’s Hala Point system built atop their Loihi 2 experimental chip. Neuromorphic computation architecture is designed to mimic the parallel processing if the human brain. This offers an interesting precedent when it comes to not only designing the language framework and libraries itself, but the methodology to adversarially attack such a system, which I hypothesize is to fashion perturbations modeled off of / inspired by disordered neurological phenomena such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, ADHD, mania / bipolar disorder, psychosis, etc. Launching and making the first commit to the repo at 6 PM PT: https://lnkd.in/eS6566f9 black dream research

Huang envisions a future where AI isn't just a tool, but a true collaborator. This rapidly advancing field gives machines the ability to create new content, code, and offer creative assistance. And this is just the beginning... Microsoft is heavily invested in Chat-GPT's creators OpenAI. They are integrating GPT into their tools with their "Copilot" suite. This has the potential to streamline tasks, synthesize information, and draft anything from emails to LinkedIn posts (👀) I wonder, in the future will AI co-pilots become so personalized that they adapt to our individual work styles and needs? TLDR: If you're building a robot/Raas product you will make more money if you build an optimized, tailored, and scalable control system opposed to building the cheapest solution possible. (better control system = more work done = more work done = more revenue & happy customers) There's really two routes when building a computer/control system for RaaS products (Robots as a service). Autonomous/semi autonomous material handling etc. #1- (Short term solution) Build the control system using a generic off-the-shelf computer. Throw it in a box with the other power, networking, plc, cabling hardware, etc. #2- (Long term solution) Build the control system around a custom chassis that is optimized for your exact application. Design for scalability, flexibility, and reliability. Have a killer supply chain. Here's what I've seen. Even though #2 has a higher purchase price, there is higher ROI in the long run and your customers will be pleased with a purpose built solution. Let's chat and see if your application is something we can help with!
