The flagship program of this organization is the Junior Summer Institute (JSI), a rigorous seven-week training focused on quantitative, analytical and communication skills.

    From a highly selective and competitive national application pool, twenty college juniors were invited to participate in the Heinz College’s PPIA JSI program. The composition of the PPIA class reflects academic, ethnic, regional, sexual orientation, gender, religious belief and age diversity, as well as the potential and demonstrated leadership necessary to positively impact the public sector.

Its founders are known as the "Seven Jewels". Alpha Phi Alpha developed a model that was used by the many Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs) that soon followed in its footsteps.
