👀It’s a question asked time and time again: how do I rank in a city/county that I don’t have a physical location in? Or, to put it more bluntly, how do I rank in other service areas? 🤔Recently, while attending a PRO (Professional Remodeling Organization) of Central Virginia event, I spoke with an outdoor lighting company owner, and this very question was the topic. Now, if you run a service area business, just like this outdoor lighting company, the problem is that in competitive categories, getting into the local pack for a city/county where you don’t have a location or verifiable address is nearly impossible. 😕 So, what can you do? While attending the Georgia Municipal Association 2024 Conference in Savannah, GA I have run into several elected and appointed officials for communities we have placed Interim City Managers and Department Heads over the past year. Our current clients for interim services include the City of Chamblee, City of Clarkston, GA, City of Brookhaven, Georgia, City of East Point and others... We talked a little about the value proposition that an Interim City/County Manager or Department Head can bring to an organization. We have found from experience they bring new ideas, mature and experienced leadership, courage to make difficult recommendations and changes and most importantly, they set up the organization for success when the next leader is hired. I've also talked with prospective cities who need interim leaders but have been alarmed or turned off by the cost of the service. I understand the need to be prudent with taxpayer dollars, but the longer term value proposition of Interim Services is definitely worth the short term cost.
