INCOMPAS and the Cloud Communications Alliance met with the FCC Commissioners individually to discuss robocall. They pointed out the continued deployment of TDM networks is causing big problems. "Next, INCOMPAS and CCA reiterated the importance of IP interconnection to the success of Commission-adopted robocall mitigation and call authentication efforts. As it is with the STIR/SHAKEN call authentication framework, IP interconnection will be critical to any effort to conduct real-time monitoring for fraudulent or AI-generated robocalls and robotexts. The continuing presence of legacy TDM networks in call chains will severely undermine the efficacy of any proposed solution that requires the transmission of information, just as TDM networks are undermining the efficacy of STIR/SHAKEN. The Commission should specifically seek comment on the necessity of IP interconnection in detecting AI-generated calls and to any AI-based technological solutions for mitigating the threat posed to consumers." They already know this. So when will they make the Big Price Cap LECs phase out TDM? Their investments are likely fully or almost fully depreciated.
