Oddly enough, listen to some morning radio in your local market for feature ideas. Radio people “podcast” everyday and face this exact problem more than you know. There is also the opportunity to attend a morning show bootcamp.

As a 25 year Voiceover Pro and podcast production expert with 18 years in radio production, it allllll starts with LISTENING to everything you record. Be your biggest critic, no matter how good it may sound to you in the beginning. Get someone in the professional space to watch/listen to your media. Make sure they shoot straight with you and tell you how to improve based on their experience. For VO students, I preach: Read, Record, Listen Back. After 25 years, it’s still what I do.

The Rode Podmic is an excellent choice. The Shure SM58 is a classic as well. I use those for remote podcast recordings for our clients.

Be insanely curious about them and pursue tangents/rabbit holes when they present themselves. In the end, it’s ALWAYS what’s best for your listener. They come first.
