Nice little anecdote in here about the Beatles song, “Drive My Car”. Paul and John getting stuck, taking a break for tea and coming back to solve it. In the marketing space we use our problem-solving analytical brain, and we use our intuitive brain. While the first needs sustained focus to complete a task, the second just sometimes needs to relax and get unstuck, back into that intuitive groove. As a creative, listen to yourself and trust your process enough to leave it and return later. Related: iterative design, and the point that your first day ideas will not be as good as your second day ideas— if you give yourself a second day.

Handle with Care. Creatives aren’t just sensitive people. They’re hypersensitive. Their emotional antennas pick up everything, from passing thoughts to existential crises. For them, feelings aren’t fleeting. They are tidal waves that flood their insides. While others deal with the weather, creatives navigate hurricanes. It’s like someone turned their volume up to 100, and chucked the remote. This sensitivity means their emotions run very deep. And you might not know it because they’re often guarded. They hide their mushy core behind sarcasm, wit, and the occasional death stare. They aren’t people pushing just a job; it’s a passion, a full-contact sport in the mind. It’s messy, chaotic, and personal. When creatives work on something, they pour their entire molten soul into it. And when that gets rejected, you aren’t just critiquing, you’re driving a burning spike to their heart. That’s why creatives flip out - trauma; not drama. Try baking a cake from scratch, with lots of love, only to have someone spit it out saying it’s yucky. Would you thank them, or show them how sweet revenge can be? Creatives are mothers to the babies they create, welded through invisible umbilical cords. They can’t separate their work from themselves. Rejection isn’t professional; it’s personal. Most creatives aren’t diplomatic either. They don’t always follow rules, read briefs, or play nice. They live on impulse, fuelled by a fire that doesn’t stub itself out. Tell them their work needs tweaking, and you might as well tell Da Vinci to add more green to the Mona Lisa. Or the logo ought to be a little to the left, and 23% bigger. Their response won’t be fit for polite company. This is why the creative industry is a hotbed of late-night booze, questionable decisions, and that one guy who shows up at noon in yesterday’s clothes. What you see is beyond rebellion; it’s survival. When your heart’s on your sleeve, you need vices to keep it from getting too heavy. This keeda doesn’t care about schedules or attendance, and it doesn’t take criticism well. Good reason why creatives enjoy a little pampering. They need room to breathe, explore, and be a little crazy because, without them, the world would be dull. If you work with them in any role - client or colleague, do remember this: They aren't only doing a job for you, they’re giving you a piece of themselves. Patience, understanding, and respect will go a long way. Because they can easily operate without you. They can present, argue, and sell campaigns with more verve and conviction. Bite your tongue.
