The massive #autoindustry data breach attributed to #CDK continues to unfold, and as a congenital contrarian (and opportunist TBH🤷🏾‍♂️) I’m fascinated by the class action legal battle that is now making its way through the US courts. 🚗 What are the economic and brand implications for the plaintiffs and the defendant? ⚖️ What does this (and the numerous other data breaches) tell us about potential venture opportunities in the auto industry, a historically under technologized sector (in cybersecurity)? 💸 Perhaps most importantly- for my day job anyway- does this market pattern & resulting economic/ brand consequences point to venture opportunities in the legal or insurance industries?🤔 What are you big 🧠s in my network thinking? On a recent Industry Relations podcast, Robert Hahn and Greg Robertson spent a lot of time exploring why an MLS would add a Concessions field, if the data in that field isn't governed by MLS rules. Coming from the vendor side, the answer seems obvious. Because: anytime you can specifically structure a common data point into a standard field, it's better for all outputs that use that data. Imagine trying to make a CMA for a client but using the "Remarks" field to figure how much to discount or add to a listing against other comps based on the concession offered for it. This really has nothing to do with rules administration and everything to do with proper data administration. I cringe at the idea that some MLSs might bury this very important piece of information in a free range text field 😬 There, Rob - you asked for a listener to chime in so there you go
