It's also about the moments that matter - those touchpoints that leave a lasting impression and shape their overall journey with your organization. Jacob Morgan argues that focusing on these key moments can unlock employee potential and lead to a more engaged and productive workforce. But here's the thing: Identifying these moments isn't always easy. Here's how to start pinpointing your own "moments that matter": . Think like an employee: Put yourself in your employees' shoes. What are the key milestones, challenges, and transitions they experience throughout their time at your company? . Gather feedback: Don't make assumptions! Conduct surveys or simply have open conversations with your team to understand what moments resonate most with them. . Look for emotional impact: Consider moments that evoke strong emotions, positive or negative. These are often the moments that leave a lasting impression and require focused attention. Take it one step further and follow Jacob's three key categories of moments that matter: specific, ongoing, and created. 1. Specific moments: Go beyond the first day. Consider birthdays, work anniversaries, or personal milestones like getting married or having a child. A thoughtful gesture during these times can create a lasting positive memory. 2. Ongoing moments: Focus on fostering positive manager-employee relationships. Regular check-ins, constructive feedback, and opportunities for growth are crucial for ongoing engagement. 3. Created moments: Don't underestimate the power of well-designed team-building events, hackathons, or even volunteering opportunities. These can create a sense of community and shared purpose.
