Think about your speech as “bricks” and “balloons”. Bricks are your hard data and information. They are a rational/intellectual element of your speech. Balloons are your stories and everything you can use to connect and make your point memorable at an emotional level. Most great speakers become masters in how to combine both.

Remind yourself right before going on stage to approach this opportunity from a place of gratitude instead of a place of “being put to a test”. You don’t HAVE to speak in public, you GET to speak in public. Having a message, a voice and an audience is a privilege that should never be taken for granted. Enjoy the ride!

Read your speech/script/presentation as you create it and asked yourself this question: What is in it for THEM? If you don’t have q clear answer on how you will add value or provide tools/information to the audience? If you don’t have clarity on it, go back to the drawing board.

I put myself in the shoes of my audience and imagine them asking themselves “What’s in it for me?”. The easier I can articulate the answer for them mentally in my mind, the more likely the tools I am sharing are worth their time.
