My brother’s company raised $3M a few months ago to improve healthcare access and expand its network across Nigeria. (I’m so proud of him & his team) Access to healthcare in Nigeria and across Africa remains a significant challenge. While some access exists, people tend to prioritize treating diseases rather than prevention. Consequently, life-threatening diseases, especially non-communicable ones, often go undetected until later stages. Improving access to diagnostics and preventive care, a domain where MDaaS has garnered recognition, is essential in tackling this healthcare challenge. The startup has expanded its operations significantly, with a current network of 17 diagnostic centers across 10 states. Looking ahead, MDaaS plans to construct an additional 23 centers in the coming years. Founded in 2017 by CEO Oluwasoga Oni, opeyemi ologun, Genevieve Barnard Oni, and Joe McCord, offers a range of services at its diagnostic centers, including imaging such as digital x-ray and ultrasound, cardiac services like ECG and echo, and various lab services spanning chemistry analysis to immunoassay and hematology. In 2023 alone, MDaaS served 108,724 patients. Additionally, MDaaS conducted over 240,000 diagnostic tests, with chest x-rays, urinalysis and full blood count ranking among the top three procedures performed. I am proud to be on the MDaaS team as an investor and advisor. Please give these inspiring people some support for their ground-breaking work. 🙏🏾 .... After all these education, training, certifications, promotions & achievements, I’m ready to take it to the next level and pursue my grand vision … If it were not for the people who supported and partnered with me, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of these things. → I’m going to be forever thankful for all who provided: Inspiring support Insightful education Motivating encouragement I also want to thank each of you for participating in this journey. Without you → There won't be any of this. And remember this: If you want to go fast, go alone If you want to go far, go together Let’s create an impact that lasts for the long term! ❤️ P.S. ♻️ Please repost to help spread the message of the power of pursuing your biggest dreams. This will help increase awareness, contributions, collaborations, growth…

Fantastic episode featuring Dr. Nicholas Okumu, covering: ➡ The recent doctors' strike in Kenya & drivers of health worker emigration: 💎 "The 'calling' to hero professions will not pay the rent." ➡ Doctors' role in advocacy: "Advocacy is part of what a doctor should do." ➡ Collaboration: We are all stronger when we work together. This is evidenced in how he champions creative, multidisciplinary solutions to health system challenges. #healthworkers #healthworkforce #healthcare #globalhealth #healthsystems

What No One Tells you About Divorce😳😱: Episode 2 - When attending church becomes an ordeal 👇 😔Struggling to show up in church ⛪️ post-divorce?👇 Hmmm….When attending church becomes an ordeal… You dread to hear the question… Where is your husband? Julia, can I have a quick word with you after church? I heard about something and wanted to speak more with you….. On and on it goes. It gets draining when people out of genuine care want to know what’s going on in your marriage ! Some too do this out of curiosity? Going to church became an ordeal for me. I was tired. I got tired and had to stay home for a while. No urge to dress up and show up in church on Sunday to serve as I used to do. Hmm… And at some point I had to quit church for a while and changed churches. Divorce indeed has a toll on every aspect of your psyche. Do you find yourself in this maze of confusion as well? Get in touch, I can guide you. I have been right in your shoes before. Feel free to also leave a comment if this resonates with you. Rooting for you always. NB: I do not preach divorce. I preach hope and healing to the broken. 🌎 Rooting for you always. Dr Julia Your Healing ❤️🩹 Queen 🫅 #whatnoonetellsyouaboutdivorce #whatnoonetellsyouaboutdivorceseriesbydrjulia

Last week, I had the privilege to deliver the keynote address at the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State. The key take aways from my address were: 1. Our population is exploding, hence widening the demand for healthcare services 2. The Nigerian Healthcare system is still weak and poor in addressing the health burden and challenges facing the country 3. The 'Japa Epidemic' is worsening and there is a need for the State to declare a state of emergency on this problem NOW 4. Nigeria has 'very good' healthcare policies and strategies but lack strong political will in executing them. This must change if we want to make progress. 5. We have to explore innovative ways of healthcare financing to bridge the the gaps we currently have in the system. My presentation is summarised in the attached doc.

Can I Have Vaginal Delivery After Cesarean Section? (VBAC) When I was in medical school 45 years ago, the mantra when it came to the management of pregnant women who underwent one or more C-sections was “Once a C-section, always a C-section.”. During my third year as a medical student, I witnessed a woman deliver by C-section even when her cervix was 9 cm dilated, or almost complete. The only reason she underwent a C-section at this late stage in her delivery was that she had had a previous C-section. As a student, this emergency approach made no sense to me. After all, she and her baby had survived the worst part of her labor. So what was the emergency requiring a C-section? Fast forward to 1981. When I arrived at my first practice, I met an OB doctor who was open to the notion that VBACs were a reasonable alternative to repeated C-sections. I read various studies of VBACs from different countries where the VBAC had proved safe and successful. We agreed that we would offer them. However, the prevailing practice at that time restricted the use of VBACs by requiring there was no induction and offer VBACs to women who had had at least one vaginal birth before their C-section. After years of relentless work, We present to you the Lagos Center for Endovascular Neurosurgery(LCEN), A team based approach to the care of patients with Neurovascular disorders. Time after time, we have identified gaps in the Nigerian Healthcare system and worked hard to fill them essentially in the realm of Minimally invasive or non-surgical interventions where patients have No cutting, faster recovery and can get back to their lives easier. One of these major voids identified is in the treatment of Brain Aneurysms, a deadly condition with over 50% mortality when not treated in an expedited manner or by the right healthcare team. Prior to our service, patients who needed to access Endovascular Aneurysm coiling needed to be flown out of the country emergently on Chattered medical evacuation flights costing an average of $100,000.00 as patients with Brain aneurysms cannot be placed on commercial flights. Because there is no such thing as impossible, we can report that we have treated successfully over 15 patients in Nigeria over the last 16months and 5 patients in the last 2 months alone. Patients in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa can now access Endovascular Aneurysm coiling in a cost-effective expedited manner and here at home. This is only possible because of collaboration/team work from multiple facets of the LCEN team. Learn more about LCEN at https://lnkd.in/dixUAbSm. Diary of Nurse Practitioner Entrepreneur If you are an overachiever, you may relate to the tendency of being addicted to the chase. Unlike other people, you don’t need to be reminded to enjoy the journey because you thrive in the journey. You reach your destination and don’t stop to reflect, celebrate, or even acknowledge it because you’re too focused on the next one. In the latest article on the Mahogany Dermatology blog, I discuss the complexities of my entrepreneurial journey in a world where nursing and business are now synonymous.
