"A Virtual Pro Bono Marathon is an exclusive one-day event in which teams of 2-3 pro bono consultants work remotely with a nonprofit partner to deliver on a pre-scoped project. During the event, teams will dig into the nonprofit’s specific organizational challenge and create a customized and actionable deliverable. Taproot Foundation will provide technical tools, training, and guidance to ensure the virtual format is effective."

While treasurer of duPont Manual High School's Action for Africa organization, a classmate and I founded Fashion for Africa, which benefitted Invisible Children. This event was a fashion show and silent auction held at our school and was the most financially successful fundraising event for the Action for Africa. Due to its success, it was continuously held each fall semester and serves as the largest event.

I personally don’t think anyone, especially entrepreneurs, have smooth roads. Whether it was finding a work-life balance, or hustling for clients, or facing internal parts of yourself you aren’t ready to explore, obstacles are constantly appearing. To me, education up until graduating college, never taught or explored conversations or learning around personal development, overcoming trauma, boundaries or being an entrepreneur. Navigating that world was challenging in and of itself because when you start as an entrepreneur, especially in service-based businesses, so much of your personal being bleeds into your business. As a solopreneur I found there was this whole gray area where my personal and professional feelings and beliefs melted into one. Our life experiences influence our internal monologues and negative self-talk and, as an entrepreneur, I quickly realized that continuously trying to run from facing and tackling those limiting beliefs was going to leave me on a hamster wheel getting nowhere. I’ve now actively committed to consistently growing, evolving, and being open to learning.

Risk is a huge part of life for anyone, especially entrepreneurs. When you’re starting a business you have to take a risk on what you’re offering and on yourself. In the words of Roy Bennett, “The comfort zone is a psychological state in which one feels familiar, safe, at ease, and secure. If you always do what is easy and choose the path of least resistance, you never step outside your comfort zone. Great things don’t come from comfort zones.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel like no entrepreneur’s road is smooth. As an entrepreneur you have to constantly be evolving, have a solid growth mindset and adapt to given situations. One of the biggest struggles was believing in myself. It took me so long to truly believe with every fiber in my being that my business could be more than a side hustle. Committing to myself and my business was by far the largest bump in the road so far.

My advice to young women starting their entrepreneurial journey? You are the only person standing in your way. If you keep that perspective your resilience will be unstoppable and your growth undeniable. Rejection can be hard and many times people, like myself, internalize it and give it more power over their self-worth and confidence that it deserves to have. Also, dream bigger. Having that mindset keeps you on your toes and always excited about a new opportunity."
