GM rakes in $3 billion in profits for Q1 2024 - Despite losing money on its EV market. GM doesn’t break out the financial performance of its EV's, but has made clear that it is losing money on them, as the auto-maker is on track to produce 200,000 to 300,000 EVs in North America this year, a more than 10-fold increase from last year. Electric-vehicle production rose 74% from the fourth quarter.

Amazing Q2 for General Motors! The driving force behind the 37% gain was strong sales of Gas powered trucks and SUVs. Trends like this bode well for GM the second half of the year. They also announced a pivot away from production of the Cruise Origin, a self driving bus to make way for more production of the next-generation Chevy Bolt. This was mainly due to regulatory uncertainty. SCN - Search Consulting Network has seen other manufacturers make changes in production recently as well to adjust for regulatory uncertainty. One thing is for certain GM has figured out which vehicles have been most profitable and scaled up manufacturing on those vehicles. Stellantis to layoff more workers. Starting today workers at numerous Stellantis plants will be laid off. The layoff includes union, non-union and temporary workers used to fill the vacation gaps over the summer. Stellantis says the move is needed to help the company counter current market conditions and offer vehicles at a reasonable cost to consumers. The UAW has filed grievances and has threatened a nation wide strike. Other OEMs and suppliers are hiring for their plants to fill critical roles needed to maintain production. SCN - Search Consulting Network has seen a steady stream of these manufacturing related jobs over the past several months. CEO Carlos Tavares revealed that Stellantis intends to introduce a $25,000 all-electric Jeep in the United States shortly in an effort to draw in mainstream buyers amidst the stagnant electric vehicle market. Currently, Stellantis only offers the electric Avenger SUV in Europe and is focusing on selling plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United States. Other automakers, like Tesla, also have the $25,000 electric vehicle goal in mind, and it's becoming more significant because of competition from Chinese brands like BYD and Nio. The Wagoneer S SUV, the first all-electric Jeep for the United States, is expected later this year. This article was relevant to me for the economic implications it has. This is a prime example of market dynamics, pricing strategies, and the competitive landscape with all the competition in electric vehicles worldwide, Stellantis is trying to get ahead by putting out an affordable fully electric vehicle to attract mainstream consumers. I found it interesting that Stellantis is deciding to create another new electric vehicle. I am extremely excited to see this vehicle and person and to see the effects it has environmentally and economically!

"And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good." -John Steinbeck Not a humble brag, but a full-force in your face brag. Not on me, but for our HR crew. Our HR team does one thing pretty dang good. Customer Service. You see, we are both a localized central services team AND a customer facing team. Our early mornings start in HR with me and my HR battle bud David Castañeda. We come in early to ensure we are available for 3rd/night shifts. I'm not bi-lingual, David is. I speak spanglish and it's pretty rough around the edges. But we get to address things and ward off problems while they are just issues. Continuous operations of any organization can stretch teams thin...quickly. You often wonder if you are making a difference. An employee dropped these off for me and David today. Lord knows I don't want gifts, but she said "you support us and we appreciate it" by giving us these. The 'thank you' you get sometimes makes effort worth it in the people space. And it's proof positive that we are making a difference. The level of traffic is down. Meaning...less problems. Because people don't show up to HR and say "Hey, everything is great. Just saying hello." The conversations are more solution-oriented and proactive versus reactive. It means things are trending better and better. Not perfect. But good. I'll take it.
