You're struggling to connect with underserved communities. How can you earn their trust in outreach efforts?
In my experience, the practice of actively listening requires individuals to be fully present. When opportunities to be a part of a dialogue process with people of diverse backgrounds happen, asking questions can feel somewhat intrusive and not authentic. Intent doesn't always equal impact. It's important to enter spaces with purity of motive acknowledging there is something more at stake than your interests. Listening means you are paying attention to your feelings of denial or defensiveness when truths expressed are not aligned with your perspective. It's almost like listening to parents trying to share life lessons when you were younger. You were listening but you didn't actually hear them until you encountered the situation.
