Walmart is selling its #telehealth business to Fabric 💸 Fabric is a #healthtech startup that unifies virtual and in-person care across intake, triage, routing, and treatment while automating workflows for staff. They raised a $60M round earlier this year funded by General Catalyst, Thrive Capital, GV (Google Ventures), and Salesforce Ventures. They also made two other acquisitions, Zipnosis (asynchronous #virtualcare) and GYANT (conversational AI assistant used for #digitalfrontdoor) within the past 18 months. 📈 This acquisition will get Fabric access to the 30,000 employers and 5 million members that Walmart served, expand provider network, add virtual behavioral health, and build on their employer’s and payer’s solutions. #digitalhealth M&A activity continue to be trending this year as we’re seeing more synergies come together when companies join forces and the challenging funding environment. I’m curious to see how Fabric will be able to merge these new acquisitions into their current workflow to improve care management. Any thoughts from you❓

Very well put Brian Casey. We are at a complex time in the business of AI. Like so many transformative technologies, it takes longer to find the sustainable business model than forecast. Overall, the innovation economy has been experiencing a very rough patch since the peek of 2021. Combining these factors is creating challenges. On the other side, we are seeing green shoots at Intelerad Medical Systems. * we and our partners at Hg are doubling down on AI and are support of customers who are undertaking innovative integrations that are driving real benefits * specific conversations revolve around both radiology practice innovation (breast imaging is an area of focus - maybe in part because it feels like a logical extension of more established CAD workflows) as well as hospital- based innovation to improve the speed of triage image interpretation for non-radiologists (fracture detection in the ER is an example) * we also continue to see a pace of change in technology that is unprecedented. By the way, that in and of itself has been a paradoxical headwind because it has made it difficult to double down on a specific technology when the field is changing so fast. I remain super optimistic and grateful for the fine work Anthony Chang, MD, MBA, MPH, MS and his team are doing!

Telehealth has become an important component of most health care systems. What started as a necessity during the pandemic has become a standard because of its many benefits to patients and providers. When growing up, NVIDIA was always a gaming company. Owning the latest graphic cards by them gave you access to some new high-tech but I would not have been sure how this translates to ‘real-world’ improvements. Frankly, if someone told me up to 3 years ago that they are heavily trying to get into #healthcare, I would have just scratched my head and doubted the strategy. But happy to be proven wrong. The article below is a nice summary of their #AI-centered strategy for healthcare. Empowering different systems, specializing chips for medical needs, and enabling more use cases for healthcare seems to be working quite well. “Hospitals will use AI cameras to automatically screen for elevated body temperature, use genomics sequencing to predict how lethal a virus or suspected condition could be for each patient, use AI in medical imaging for detection and predicting clinical outcomes, incorporate AI into everyday cameras and microphones to monitor and interact with patients.”
