What are the most effective ways to identify promising startups as a deal sourcer?
A really important element is to not just attend the pitch events but to MENTOR first time founders Mentoring founders keeps you sharp, educates you on early stage trends and market dynamics, but is a real Value add to first time founders. Simple suggestions like which law firm to use, and which partner to approach at that law firm, or whether to raise a convertible debt note, YC pre money SAFE, or a YC Post money safe, can have huge IMMEDIATE value for first time founders while taking very little time for the mentor. The relationships developed through mentors turn into an incredible source of potential deal flow, and referrals to other incredible founders! This is particularly and acutely true in climate tech! #climatecrisis #climate
