Last year we worked on a contract template with our outside counsel. We took it into market and negotiated a bunch. Got a good sample size. Turns out parts of it don't work as well as we thought and we should have made it simpler in some places. We need to revisit it and make some changes. There are some in-house lawyers who do not see OC as "we" and see their OC as "them". Truth is, you know your business best and you are the ones out in market negotiating. And most importantly, the vast majority of projects are iterative. OC is a partner - not a tool you use.

Important update in biometric privacy laws. Illinois passed Bill 2979, updating the Biometric Information Privacy Act. The recent Coltrane v. White Castle case clarified that every time biometric data is collected, it triggers BIPA, highlighting the need for strict regulation. Comparing the Coltrane decision with Bill 2979 shows how biometric privacy laws are evolving. While Coltrane broadened BIPA's coverage, Bill 2979 provides clearer rules for businesses navigating BIPA. #BiometricPrivacy #DataProtection #EthicalAI"
