CCCAOE’s Fall 2024 Call for Breakout Session Proposals is open! Deadline to Submit: August 23, 2024 The theme for 2024: Shaping a Sustainable Future for California’s Diverse Workforce Your CCCAOE professional development planning committee for the Spring 2024 Conference has aligned the conference strands with Vision 2030 and the feedback you provided in the 2023 Survey. We are looking for proposals focusing on the Adult Learner, Student-Centered Strategies, Work-based Learning, and the Future of Work. We want to HIGHLIGHT the tremendously innovative work happening all across the state. CCCAOE invites proposals that foster discovery and problem-solving through idea-sharing and community building. We strongly encourage proposals that include a panel of presenters, voices of students, and sessions that provide practical tools and hands-on learning to take back to campuses. The sessions should be INNOVATIVE, FRESH, and ENGAGE the audience. Presenters should seek to amplify the how and why of practices, strategies, or models and to facilitate reflection and engagement that helps translate VISION into communities of practice—ultimately guiding and inspiring the actionable work for our members back to campuses. We will accept 30 well-rounded, impactful sessions for the 6 strands listed below. All Breakout Sessions will be held on Thursday, October 24, 5 from each strand. The students I see at College of Eastern Idaho (an open-enrollment community college) generally fall into one of three camps: 1) Prepared, bright, accomplished, and disciplined. 2) Adequately ready and wanting to get through the course as a box to check (these students often surprise themselves that they actually learn things over the 16 weeks); and, 3) Students who are utterly unprepared for the most basic college-level course. Many of the latter category, comprising perhaps one-quarter of my students, are either early college high school students or recent high school graduates. Some catch on quickly and make the adjustments. Others either don't make it through the course or eke out a low grade, leaving with a sense of frustration and failure. Policies like the one in Boise described in the attached Idaho Education News article seem increasingly common. They might be one reason for the number of students who aren't accustomed to meeting deadlines, using basic language conventions, or even reading textbooks. I admire high school teachers -- they are the frontline of educating our young people, and they do it against stiff headwinds. We need to give them tools and support. We don't need to eliminate basic learning standards or proven pedagogical practices. https://lnkd.in/gautNBE6

The Rancho Santiago Community College District has seen an increase in enrollment in its two colleges – Santiago Canyon College and Santa Ana College – in each of the past three years, and district officials credit the increase to its strategy of targeting specific demographic segments and having initiatives in place to ensure the growth continues to trend upward. Through a dual enrollment partnership between the college district and Orange Unified School District, OUSD students can earn transferable college credits by taking college-level classes while still in high school. While the dual enrollment program is open to all students, including those in private schools and outside the Orange Unified district, RSCCD targets economically disadvantaged students, said Jason Parks, vice president of Academic Affairs for Santiago Canyon College. Another reason for the growth is the number of apprenticeships being offered by the district. SCC ranks No. 2 among California’s 116 community colleges in the number of apprenticeships offered. SCC currently offers 10 apprenticeships that serve about 5,400 students in fields that include carpentry, mechanics, surveying, cosmetology and construction. Read More: https://lnkd.in/gHu5Jcys

It's a new era for #EarlyChildhoodEducation in Alaska! The introduction of our BA with PK-3 licensure led to a surge in students from 30 in our AAS (Fall 2022) to 82 in our BAEC (Spring 2024). Exciting news continues as we welcome another 20-30 new #AlaskaSproutScholars this summer, students exploring an #ECCareer with funding from the #AlaskaDepartmentOfHealth. Checking the IR dashboards, Fall 2024 applications are on the rise with 82 first-time freshman applications, 47 of whom have already enrolled. Lastly, this story about our friends and partnership with the #ASCF shares how another 40 #AlaskaEducators are preparing to become #ApprenticeTeachers, enhancing our workforce with skilled #EarlyChildhood professionals.
