    As Gordon Gekko should have said in that new Wall Street film: "Fast is good". But Fast is also challenging. How do you keep up? One answer is to use leasable hardware appliances from companies with pre-configured proprietary APIs. But there's a potential problem with that. While such hardware based systems are fast, they also throw out a large amount of unnecessary data to standard processing grids. So the processors bog down with their heavy overload of data, and the speed gain is lost in the resultant power-draining 'weight gain'. The good news is that there's a way round that problem. With customizable hardware at the network interface using customer programmed FPGAs, most of the surplus data is parsed away before it hits the processors. The result is a dramatic increase in processing speed, and with that a number of very obvious benefits.
