Did you know the average life expectancy for a CDL truck driver in the US is only 61 years? Project 61 aims to change this by ensuring our drivers lead longer, healthier lives. 🚛 Drivers are our lifeline, but their wellness often takes a backseat. Poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and inconsistent sleep are all factors contributing to the alarming life expectancy rate. Do you have an employee who isn’t meeting expectations? Bottom line, the first step is to look in the mirror as a leader and ask, “Have I done everything possible to ensure this employee’s success?” Often times we rush to a PIP or a “coach them out” philosophy. It cost more to recruit and train a new employee than it would to invest in the tools, training, and support of improving the current employee performance. Invest in them, ensure they understand the expectations, and build a plan together to achieve it. Performance should be addressed on every check in and no write up or poor review should ever be a surprise. Lead by example, teach them, and remember that their success is the true measurement of your performance as a leader.

In order to avoid, reduce, and limit fraudulent acts like double brokering, it is crucial to have proper systems and protocols in place. Here are 3 standard procedures I highly recommend implementing: 1. Work with carriers that are thoroughly vetted, and meet safety, security, and background credentials, and maintain strong communication and connections. 2. Ensure detailed load confirmation and notes with all shipment requirements are agreed upon and signed by the carrier before dispatching their driver. 3. Prior to pickup, have the carrier send a picture of their truck displaying their authorities that match their registered carrier information on their profile before allowing check-in for pickup. By following these steps and integrating them into your daily operations, you can prevent losses and avoid theft and frauds like double brokering. #freightbroker #sop #compliance
