This! Most of us Marketers who have served on the agency side usually have several different, simultaneous emotions when we find that we are going for an RFP: excitement, optimism, opportunity - and, dread. The last emotion is typically based on wondering if we will have to divine the business focus, the sharpness in requirements, buy-in from the RIGHT stakeholders, and some sense of commitment from the organization. Understand, when you as an organization partner with an agency, you are committing to something akin to a marriage. Any time it ventures into one-sidedness, the partnership falters, no matter how pretty the pictures are. People silently blame each side for communication, expectations and the end result. I meet often with executives in different constructs where we try to share perspectives on the marketplace and any insights we've gleaned. The colloquialism we call this is "A Million Dollars worth of Game." Usually, what is shared can have major impact to the organizations we serve. My good friend, Joni Lockridge Yates has shared 100 Million Dollars worth of Game here. What she has provided - for FREE - is useful across the spectrum, whether you have an RFP for a site build, mobile app, marketing campaign or digital product design. The more an organization has a clear head about what they want from their partners, the better the result and the experience. Chef's kiss, my friend. Every brand projects requires alignment. Sometimes alignment requires it's own dedicated phase and work. It can suck a lot of time and energy from an otherwise focused process. A few years ago, I noticed a shift. There were clients who approached us already aligned in what they needed and why. It meant @Circa Brand Agency's work could be done faster, smoother, and more focused on what we do best — the brand work! Turns out, these groups had read Traction and were implementing EOS. I'm not an EOS-implementer, or anyway affiliated with it. But... maybe I should be... It's something that saved our clients time and money when it comes to branding. Which makes me think... anyone with the same experience? Implementing EOS and going through a brand refresh? How was it? https://lnkd.in/e8A4sRPh

Annual "plans" are a thing of the past. We just wrote about it in this article <https://lnkd.in/gsB4YYCK> on Ervin & Smith and turns out the smart folks at McKinsey are talking about some of the very same things in a recent strategy podcast: https://lnkd.in/gcnwW7X6 As the strategy lead at E&S for... a long time... I've learned that the perfect strategy doesn't exist. First, no one can predict the future and what may disrupt your plans. And second, even when something works amazingly well, there is always room to iterate and improve. Take a listen (or read) to hear more about two mindsets critical to strategic thinking: beginning with curiosity (our first core value!) and using a multitude of lenses to examine a given issue.
