Applicant Tracking Systems can be super frustrating. I see lots of posts from candidates particularly frustrated with Workday. On a positive note, I hear great feedback regarding Smart Recruiters. Why the frustration? Because their application gets lost in the ATS labyrinth, additionally, it is unusual to see the contact details of who you can follow up with. However, here are some simple tips I recommend to our candidates of how to get your CV in front of a real person. ➡️Start with keywords. ATS scans for specific words related to the job description. Use them on multiple occasions. ➡️Next, keep it simple. ATS doesn't like fancy formatting. Stick to a clean, easy-to-read layout. Keep boxes to a minimum. ➡️Finally, save your CV in the right format. ATS prefers Word documents or PDFs. Remember, the goal is to get past the ATS and into the hands of a hiring manager. Next time you apply for a job, don't just send out your resume and hope for the best, take 5 minutes to optimise it for ATS.
