When CEOs crush hard on their new product, they can easily lose objectivity. Hearing excitement from a few early adopters doesn't necessarily mean you have a hit for mainstream customers. You need to detach and view your product as the market does, warts and all. Listening (really listening) to direct feedback from target prospects and your front-line employees is crucial for getting it right. See link to my full article in comments below.

I have a confession to make...I love wine!!! 🍷 But I hate buying it online for 2 reasons: 1) I love getting recommendations and insights from the wine store owners. Wine is like art. I want to talk about it, muse about it, and learn the little details. On most websites that part of the experience is missing entirely. Wine brands, please have ultra-personalized recs (not the 3-question quizzes..) Or a chat option to speak with a wine expert. 2) Many DTC wine sellers are pushing the Wine Club experience. To me, it's an "idk what I'm getting" experience. I am picky with wine and I want to make my own choices. (tbh I have this issue with all mystery boxes. Maybe I am a control freak 😬) I'll subscribe if you give me the freedom to buy what I want and still offer me the subscriber discount. But I cannot commit to potentially getting a bottle of Pinot Grigio as a part of my Wine Club monthly box. I cannot stand it. Now if a DTC wine brand would offer me a paid membership a la Subscribfy (promotion time 😉) I am so in. Take my money. Skip a month if I need to (dry Januaries happen). Complete freedom to buy any bottle from the catalog. Get all the perks of the membership (discount, and may I suggest "EXPEDITED SHIPPING"?!).
