  • Real Money from Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality was supposed to be the next big consumer technology, but one thing was missing: It didn’t actually solve a consumer problem. More than $10 billion invested in startups is at risk of evaporating. Companies are pivoting to location-based entertainment as a means to build awareness, revenue, and runway. A must read for anyone looking to enter this growing, but increasingly crowded, marketplace.

With digital jukeboxes excepted out of compulsory licenses for mechanical rights and the Jukebox License Agreement, digital jukebox companies are left having to manually clear all their music manually. This means contracts with major and independent record labels, PRO’s and thousands of publishers. And with no laws or rules governing these business arrangements, each entity can…

Now we get to answer one of the most common questions about digital jukeboxes: why are some artists not available? With digital jukeboxes excepted out of compulsory licenses for mechanical rights and the Jukebox License Agreement, digital jukebox companies are left having to manually clear all their music manually. This means contracts with major and independent record labels, PRO’s and thousands of publishers. And with no laws or rules governing these business arrangements, each entity can hold out for whatever they believe is a fair deal.

  • Digital Jukebox Licensing 102

    NSM Music Blog

Last week I wrote about licensing for digital jukeboxes being like a 4 legged stool, and went into the first three of those legs: master use licensing, public performance licensing and mechanical licenses. This week we discuss the fourth leg, Sync, as well as some of the complexities of negotiation contract terms and why the JLO doesn’t apply to digital jukeboxes.

These 102-cm (40-in) high-def, interactive touchscreens (like an iPhone for giants) are divided into three sections: Four Host First Nations society; Aboriginal business success stories; and CTC’s 28 significant Aboriginal tourism experiences across Canada.

The commission’s 28 experiences, shown in one-minute videos, include a map of Canada with rotating images and video. There’s also a Games-time schedule of entertainment, plus the option for visitors to leave an e-mail address to receive more info.

The other kiosks are at the Aboriginal Business Centre and Artisans Village adjacent to the pavilion, and at the International Broadcast Centre and Main Media Centre at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
