Seatrium recently participated in a visit hosted by TCOMS - Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore for Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat. This visit highlighted our collaborative efforts to advance Floating Offshore Wind, Green #FPSOs, and Cyber-Physical Modelling. Since signing our Master Research Collaboration Agreement with TCOMS in April 2023, we have been at the forefront of pioneering cyber-physical modelling to predict environmental loads and platform responses in extreme conditions - an essential step for the future of #FPSOs and offshore wind platforms. Seatrium made history as the first to conduct a commercial test for an #FPSO vessel at TCOMS’ ocean basin facility in January 2023, following a thorough evaluation of model test facilities. This initiative has contributed to TCOMS being recognized as a global leader in cutting-edge research and development, with its ocean basin facility now included on the approved test facility list by Seatrium’s industry partners. Looking ahead, we will focus on developing digital twins for FPSOs, leveraging data from model tests. These technologies would allow our clients to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute towards a more sustainable offshore industry. DPM Heng’s visit underscores the vital importance of collaboration among the public sector, academia, and private industry in advancing the rapidly growing offshore wind market and driving global maritime decarbonization. Check out the recent Letter in Physical Review Fluids titled "Volumetric visualization of vanishing vortices in wind turbine wakes" from members of our laboratory, Johannes Næsset Hillestad, Srikar Yadala V, Ingrid Neunaber, Leon Li, R. Jason Hearst and Nicholas Worth.   The team investigated the "anomalous" spectral peaks in wind turbine wakes observed in previous experimental studies and field tests. By varying the angles-of-attack of the blades and using time-resolved volumetric measurements (shake-the-box PTV), they quantified tip vortex interactions. We are proud to announce the publication of our latest research paper titled "Cascading failure modelling in global container shipping network using mass vessel trajectory data " in the prestigious journal "Reliability Engineering & System Safety ” (IF = 8.1). This paper introduces a novel cascading model that comprehensively analyzes the occurrence and diffusion of cascading failures within the GCSN. The model employs extensive worldwide vessel trajectory data to simulate port failures and redistribute maritime traffic across alternative routes and ports. A Motter-Lai overload model is applied, complemented by a three-level balanced redistribution of traffic flows according to the specific roles of the disrupted ports. The cascading failure model reveals the significance and similarity of failure ports through a process of relevance mining, enabling the analysis of the GCSN's vulnerability, reliability, potential risks, and possible impacts.
