Unequal Treatment in Utility Billing: A Reflection As a private enterprise or individual, we're all familiar with the drill: pay your electricity bill by the due date, or face a disconnection notice, followed swiftly by someone coming to disconnect the service. But have you ever noticed how government enterprises seem to get a different treatment? Take, for example, MTNL and other such entities. When it comes to paying electricity bills, they seem to enjoy unlimited credit from service providers. It raises an important question: Why the disparity in treatment? Is it fair that while private entities face strict deadlines and penalties, government enterprises can defer payments without immediate consequences? This discrepancy highlights a broader issue of accountability and equity in how services are managed and paid for. It's time we reflect on these inconsistencies and strive for a more balanced approach. 💡 The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) ordered grid operator PJM Interconnection to plan for future transmission needs, a necessity for the advancement of solar, wind, and storage projects. 💡 Over 167 GW of large-scale solar, wind, and storage projects are awaiting interconnection studies by PJM due to the lack of transmission capacity. 💡 The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has proposed plans for a major “national interest” transmission corridor in the PJM region for a clean energy grid. At EEI 2024 Jensen Huang talked about a new business model for electric utilities where the grid becomes a marketplace that dynamically connects new supply and demand (Pedro Pizarro got to teach Jensen the term "DERMS"). These new supply-demand load profiles will have an unknown impact on equipment performance including premature failure. Asset traceability will be increasingly important for monitoring, understanding, and predicting equipment performance resulting from these load profile changes.
