Before explaining why, seek to understand. 1.Be Direct & Open: “I noticed you’re hesitant. Could you share your concerns?” 2.Show Curiosity: “I’m interested in understanding your perspective. What are the reasons you’re not in favor of this?” 3.Seek Specific Feedback: “Can you help me understand what aspects you find problematic?” 4.Create a Safe Space: “I value your input and want to make sure I’m addressing potential issues. Can you explain your reservations?” 5.Be Collaborative: “Let’s work together to address any concerns. What specifically about this idea do you think might not work?” Approaching the conversation with openness and a genuine desire to understand will help foster a more productive and respectful discussion.

First and probably most important is to approach the situation with a one team mindset.Here’s an example of a message I’d send. Hi Team, We’ve identified some discrepancies in [specific data set/system]. Here’s a summary: 1. Issue Description: [Brief description of the discrepancy] 2. Impacted Areas: [Departments, systems, dashboards] 3. Potential Impact: [Briefly describe potential consequences] 4. Next Steps: • [Specific action 1] (e.g., “Re-examine the data source”) • [Specific action 2] (e.g., “Update the affected records”) • [Specific action 3] (e.g., “Schedule a meeting to discuss further”) Please review the information and provide feedback or raise any additional concerns. Can we aim to resolve this by [specific deadline]?

Here's a model I use: Overview: - Describe specific changes. Avoid placing blame. - Explain why changes are necessary/beneficial Impact on Project Timeline: - Original Timeline: Outline original key milestones/deadlines - Updated Timeline: List new milestones/deadlines, note shifts Reasons for Timeline Adjustment: - Explain the need for the adjustment, such as additional work, reallocation of resources, etc. - Highlight potential risks/challenges associated with the change Next Steps: - Outline steps the team will take to implement - Indicate support/resources needed from stakeholders Call for Feedback: -We value your feedback/concerns regarding these changes. Please share your thoughts by [specific date] for prompt consideration.

To make your data visualization more inclusive consider the following: Provide accessible table charts. ADA.gov has excellent examples and tutorials to ensure your next visualization is accessible. Consider adding alt text. Alt text is a brief description of visual elements. This can help those who are visually impaired but also helps give additional context. Consider color and contrast. Color should not be your sole method of conveying information. Ensure your interactive elements are keyboard-navigable. You can implement this into your QA workflow. Lastly consider your text. Not only is your choice of font important, but the sizing of the font as well. Be mindful when highlighting font to use a contrasting color.

Define Data Requirements Clearly: Understand the analysis goals: Clearly outline what you aim to achieve with the data. Share this with the business and seek their approval. Identify key metrics: Determine the specific data points crucial for your analysis. Prep as much of the data mapping as you can. Set data quality standards: Establish criteria for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness. Set clear milestones: Ensure the members of your team are all aligned on the timeline of each milestone. Communicate these ahead of time and ask for confirmation of understanding from each member.
