“I've had the honor to work with a lot of smart people throughout my career. However, April truly stands out. She's one of the smartest strategists I've ever known. She has a quick mind and quickly sees the best path forward for a brand. She's highly collaborative, consistently creative, and committed to clear communication. If I were looking for help to develop my brand strategy she's the first person I'd contact. ”
About
April is the co-founder of ForthRight People: part marketing and branding agency, part business consultancy, and 100% committed to helping businesses of all sizes and professionals in all industries become savvier marketers and reach their goals. Backed by more than 40 years of brand-building expertise and a uniquely forthright approach, our flexible “coach-train-do” framework ensures you get everything you need and nothing you don’t to boost your brand and transform your business.
April believes most business challenges can be solved with strategic brand building, whether that’s developing a rock-solid Personal Brand for an individual or launching a multi-tiered campaign for small to mid-size businesses. The right branding can increase revenue, earn market leadership status, boost recruitment, improve company culture, and support talent development.
April is also the Co-Founder of ForthRight Women, a community dedicated to helping ambitious women rise and achieve more from their careers and their personal lives without having to sacrifice either. We are an action-oriented group that comes together to have honest, transparent conversations about the challenges we face as women and how to overcome them. From Executive Moms to Rising Female Leaders, we share ambition, are unapologetic about what we want to achieve, and are collectively challenging biases to redefine success not as a choice, but as an expectation. Together, we are paving a new path to achieve a greater level of fulfillment for ourselves and the women that will come after us.
With a design and MBA foundation, April spent the first 15 years of her career exploring all the ins and outs of agency life and doing much more than the work. What she knows is how to deal with tension, manage people and personalities, and how to choose the right work for the right clients, which is what really matters in business. She brings her expertise to help others do it even better, especially when it comes to building new capabilities and the teams to support them.
She’s passionate about building and maintaining strong relationships and strives to be the kind of person people want to work with.

Here's how you can manage stress and avoid burnout in a digital strategy role.
This comment doesn’t just pertain to a digital strategy role but ANY role! I spent the early part of my career working so many hours that I lost sight of not only myself but the important relationships in my life outside of work. We all must take time to relax, recharge, and do things we genuinely enjoy outside of work. It makes us better employees in the long run and renews our commitment to doing our job well. I tell everyone now that the best piece of advice I can give is to take your vacation AND really be present on that vacation.

Here's how you can navigate obstacles in decision making in Creative Strategy.
Uncertainty is actually a positive part of the creative process and working through it strategically gets to more sound solutions. It is important to take action immediately so that it doesn’t slow you down, assessing what information will help solve for it - within reason - so that good decisions can be made without having to have all of the information and possible solutions. Creativity requires informed risk and taking chances because it inherently holds a level of subjectivity to it.

What do you do if you don't have the budget for a graphic designer but need to create a brand logo?
This! I was coming here to say something similar. If you start with a brand strategy it streamlines the process for so many future things including your logo. Companies that don’t invest here struggle because they don’t know who they are, why they exist, or why anyone would choose them over the competition. Which leads to a commoditized, watered down experience that customers don’t want to buy and employees don’t want to work for. The brand experience is fundamental to any successful, long-term business.

What do you do if your Creative Strategy is influenced by biases?
This is why strategy is so important. Biases are subjective by nature. Strategy provides the objective foundation for alignment and evaluation. Gaining buy-in for strategy is key, as well as coming back to the strategy at all key considerations, touchpoints and executions in the process.
